Virgin withdraws Voyager trains

From BBC:


Rail commuters experienced major delays after 70 Virgin trains were withdrawn from service with an electrical fault.
All of the Voyager fleet were recalled for urgent modifications on Sunday night after a "minor detonation" in a component on one of the trains.

It is believed a build-up of gas led to the component exploding.

Hundreds of passengers at Birmingham New Street Station on Sunday were told other carriers would honour their tickets.

Alan McLane from Virgin Trains told BBC News he was confident services would return to normal in the next few hours.

"By the later part of today we should have a full service again," he said.

"It was an electrical explosion, a new fault, which could be described as a minor detonation. The problems were country-wide."

Some questions answered:
Q: How can I get a 1st class ticket cheaper than normal return ticket?
A: Because I bought a advance 7 days ticket for Lancaster to London and a advance 3 days 1st class ticket for return. The 7 days adv ticket cost £26 (for 2 ppl, all same below), and the return ticket 1st class is £61. A normal saver return from London to Lancaster cost £79. So, for an extra £8 (£87 vs £79), I can enjoy the first class lounge, unlimited drink and refreshment as well as a meal! Great, isn't it?

Q: How can I post the photo/blog while I am travelling?
A: I use my XDA IIs to take photo and upload the photo with the blog message to Flickr.com, they have a function called Upload-2-Blog, so I can post an entry anytime! MatMat also setup one, you can find hers @ www.matmat.co.uk

Today, Saturday.

Today, Saturday, as usual, stay at home, went to supermarket, bought some food and prepare for the coming bank holiday weekend. Nothing special except seem the engineering works around Lancaster station is finished, no more big spotlight or engine noise, on one side, I miss those thing, it is nice to see some weird machines working in railway track, it is also exciting when u see something new. But I think matmat will prefer a quiet evening.

In this afternoon, I came up with a name "Krispy Kreme Appreciation Society", and I am member no.2. Basically, it is just a excuse for me to eat more doughnuts. Geez.. Seem I addicted to this sweet things. And I've also planned a day trip to London, Let's See (approx time only):

6:00, Take first or second train to London Euston
9:00, Breakfast @ Leicester Sq (Chinatown, Yam Cha)
10:30, Visit Applestore and other Shop
12:00, Lunch @ Korean/Vietnamese Restaurant
2:00, More shopping at Chinatown or Haircut (for MatMat)
4:00, (GOOD! Free time)
5:45, Get 2 dozens of doughnuts!
6:00, Train to Lancaster

Good, isn't it? Dunno if it is possible.. HAHAHA

MatMat has a early shift today, om... as usual I need to wake up and take her to work. Dunno why, seem I have to struggle to wake up today, and dunno why, seem the clock alarm didn't go off.. Luckily, the railway work is (nearly?) finished now around Lancaster, so I can have a good sleep before Weekend shopping later today..

Home sweet home...

My Dinner, Roast Duck (Red Box) & Kispy Kreme,

Yes, arrived home, just 5 mins delay instead of 20. Good job, Virgin.

Even-thought we had that lovely dinner @ train, we still had some foods just before shower. We bought a dozen of doughnut from Kispy Kreme, I heard of this name when last Apple WWDC, ppl has Kispy Kreme for breakfast. But dunno why American so crazy about it. But now, I know why, it is so tasty especially a little bit warm. We are considering just to take a train to Euston and come right back with 2 dozens.

And second one is a roast duck, the shop we used to purchase roast duck "Garden" ceased trading, but a new one opened just opp the old one. This new shop's roast duck is more tasty, £12.8 for a whole duck, can't say it is cheap nor expensive, but a roast duck in a while, well, it is ok!

Some people asked me questions like how can I post while I am travelling (on Train, at hotel), and some asked why 1st class is cheaper than standard class. Hehe.. let me explain them in detail tomorrow, too tired for today!

Nice onboard dinner and stopped

The onboard dinner is nice, I had yorkshire pudding and surprisingly matmat also ordered lamb... Ommm.. Dunno what she is thinking... The portion is small but it is very good.

And after finished the dinner, the train stopped just before nueaton. They said there was a point problem (?) ahead.. So we are waiting... And it has been over 10 mins now.. Seem a 10 to 30 mins delay is a norm in BR...

First class journey begin..

yes, we r on board the train now, as it is nearly six . We can hv dinner with either lamb yorkshire pudding or selection of sandwiches, as well as a cheese dish with dessert. Two courses meal, for this evening... Will type more when I finish half the journey.

Virgin first class lounge

We had lunch at chinatown, yam cha and bought some food... Arr actually, not some but quite a lot. Hehehe...

Then we r now waiting at the Euston station first class lounge, this "so-called" first class lounge is nothing more than the size of a caf� shop, they offer some bites and free drink. No aircon, honestly I rather stay at main area if they offer some seats, if u've been to london euston before you will know there are no places for u to sit down n wait, well except those restaurant. I thoughts they hv free internet, but no, only those one pound for fifteen minutes hotspot. Still an hour before we can board the train (if no delay). Will take some more photos when we r on board.

Congratulations to Liverpool

What an extraordinary win, a coming up from 3 null down to 3 all. A fantastic save from liv goalkeeper in added time. However, I was just in time to watch the added time but it is still a wonderful match, great defance from liv, great attack from ac.

Good luck to liverpool in the UEFA committee. I sure hope they can defend their champion next year. Now, looking forward to see uk champion league next week. I sure hope Preston can advance to premiership, so I can see their match and other p league team nr my home.. Keke

Day 2 part 2...

Unfortunately, today is very hot and we lost our way between leciester sq, holbon and tottinghan court road, it took us 20 mins to find the covent garden. Well, maybe convent garden is the most bus unfriendly place. But ya know, covent garden's tube station is horrible too. Anyway, we have a short walk around and bought a nice gift to matmat :). As most boy know, except diamonds and little bear, it is difficult to buy gift for a girl, but u will know when u see her eye while she is watching "the target"....

Time to eat again, this restaurant we had been before, called beligo. A belgium restaurant with a chioce of over hundreds of bear or liquor drink. I had a honey beer and matmat had a mango beer. Both of them r nice. Food is second, but still above average..(but we had oyster in like 2 hrs ago.), we had mussel. This basically conclude the second day, some shopping in self-fridges, many food. Hot day...

Tomorrow, we will be going back to lancaster by train...da..da....da first class (not that we want luxury , but thx to BR ticket system, it will be cheaper to travel first class.. will explain wheb I got home).. Lunch to yam cha in chinatown, some chinese shopping.. Will post again tmr in first class lounge . Kekeke

London day 2 part 1

So, after we went to applestore and had a great lunch, we went to Harrods. The original plan was to visit the pet shop in there, there r always some cute puppy in Harrods pet shop. But, unluckily, there were none, they said "awaiting new stock"... Ommm weird... then we went to food court to take a rest (again). We found a great oyster bar.. Ommm haven't had any oyster for sometime, so we went ahead and ordered six.. Omm Harrods oyster.. Probably the best I had in my life... But I better not mention the bill to anyone.. It is Harrods afterall, good for tummy bad for wallet. The photo is the guy preparing oysters.

London best pit stop...

We r at applestore london right now... A pit stop and maybe some souvenir (hint hint: ipod shuffle ).. Then we'll go to china town n hv a vietnamese lunch... Matmat said the a/c is very comfy in the applestore.. It may need thirty mins more before we go out the store... Ommmm

Day 1- Part 3 (Musical)

We went to see musical "Mamma Mia" at Prince of Wales Theatre. The theatre itself is newly build, so u can see the seat r very new. A very very good theatre, itself is worth a visit.

The musical itself is good. I particularly like this kind of new age musical. Familiar music, great cherography... but duuno why I still like the "We will Rock u" most. But honestly, this come the second and phantom come third. All of them r very entertaining and worth every pennies .

This end the report for today. We r going to shopping tomorrow. Hv to get some good rest for both legs. Hehheeehehe

As usual, jap food is matmat and my favorite. Instead of going to ?? sushi, we went to a proper jap restaurant this time. Great food, good price, opened by a korean.. Anyway, the restaurant name is ???, just the small street behind leciester sq. Beside that chinese supermarket .

Day 1- Part 1 (Bus)

Ok. Here we go, end of day mourning. First, I like travel by bus now, unlike hk or other place in uk. U hv to buy a ticket to board the bus. Here is the problem, matmat and I need two one-day passes which cost 6 gbp. And all we hv in our whole body r 5.80 plus over 50 gbp cash notes. So, what can we do? Yes, walk all the way back to Euston station n ask for change... So cheap. can't they allow ppl to use credit card or a 10gbp notes. Dumb dumb..

Second,

Q: Where is the biggest red light district in uk. Yes! The whole London!.. Seem the bus trip from Euston to our hotel passed over hundreds of red light and we stopped at everyone of them. Isn't it the biggest red.light district?..

But it is still better to travel in underground in hot summer... More to come in part 2.

1520.. Arrived hotel, the room is similar to the size of my bedroom!!!... Many stories to tell, e.g stupid bus n red light district , keep watching. will update tonight.

We r suppose to arrive Euston at 1325. And predictably, we are still on the way to Watford Junction (sup 1301). Thank you! We are 30 mins late! And seem weather in london is better than lancaster, good!

On the train now....

Pendolino, "Virgin Lady". The train is half full.... or half empty? Seem i've got the booking wrong again. Matmat like backwards seat and somehow we ended up in a forward seat and those large table leg-to-leg seat. Perhaps my sub conscious told me to do so? But since the train is half empty/full, we got the seats we like.Yeaah

A interesting device that featured on Appledaily today, basically, it is device that only has 2 USB port, one for source and one for target, so, if you connect a iPod Shuffle (Target) to a Digital Camera (Source), then, it will copy all of the data into the target, nice, isn't it?

However, if I copy the content from one USB to the another, will it overwrite all Target data?? Omm....

Packing for London

MatMat is busy packing stuffs for us to go to London tomorrow and I, as usual, sit back and watch her pack. Lovely! ;)

Mr. JS started a new Wiki today to translate all of the London Underground stations' name into Chinese (unofficially)! I don't know if it is for fun or for real, but it has great fun.

Honestly, seem no one ever translated all LU stations into Chinese, hopefully, this page can become the corner -stone of future LU stations Chinese name! Haha!

Busy weekend

Just started to write a little widget for showing the latest threads in HKRDB, seem coding is the most easiest part of all. I've now used over 5 hours to tanker the graphic, the CSS and some feedback in the widgets! Om... I like good UI, but I am so stupid to write a good UI...

And today, FA Cup final, Arsenal vs ManU, what a match, yet another match shows that not the stronger (or most aggressive) team will win, it is all down to luck. Is Arsenal desire the Cup? I say, yes! BTW, I just remember a research said team that wears RED has advantage, is it another prove??? Or 波係圓?



Time to go back to Photoshop for the UI... omm

Apple Recall

Today, Apple computer recalls notebook batteries that used on late last year and early this years' iBook G4 and PowerBook 12"/15". Seem Apple is one of few IT companies that do large scale recall for their product (i.e. iBook motherboard, PowerMac G4 PSU). Is this a kind of honesty or just poor quality control, and I doubt the latter one.
